Salem was founded in 1626 by Robert Conant, whose statue still remains right in the downtown area. The word Salem is derived from the Hebrew word for peace, although the history of this town is far from peaceful.
This quirky yet mysterious place has a strong history tying back to the 1693 Witch Trials where over 200 people were accused of being involved with witchcraft. While many were accused, 20 people were executed.
The town is now a travel-hub for those seeking a truly unique experience, spooky ghost tours, fascinating history and an overall fun time. Salem has plenty to offer for everyone.

Made famous by the American author Nathanial Hawthorne who wrote the novel “The House of the 7 Gables” inspired by this beloved 1600s historical home.
Salem Common was founded in the 17th century and was once used for militia training. It’s now home to a beautiful park as well as scenes from the famous Hocus Pocus movie.
Pioneer Village is the first living history museum in America. This captivating village is designed to interpret 17th-century colonial life from 1630 and has a beautiful way of telling a story just by observing and walking around the grounds
Old Burying Point Cemetery is the oldest European burial ground in Salem and among the oldest in the country. Many of the war heroes and judges of the Salem Witch Trials are buried here. Highly recommend visiting at night as well, it’s extra spooky!
An iconic and must-see house in Salem located at 4 Ocean Avenue. The famous home of Max and Dani from Hocus Pocus with that classic watch tower that every kid wanted for themselves.
Old Town Hall, the filming location where Max and Dani from Hocus Pocus ran up the steps of the Hall at the Halloween party to warn their parents about the Sanderson Sisters

Salem Maritime National Historic Site consists of nine acres of land and twelve historic structures along the Salem waterfront and it’s absolutely stunning. Makes for some great photo opportunities as well!
