Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort Review
Located in downtown Calistoga, CA, Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort resides with its ever so charming, intimate and beautiful property. Calistoga is at the very top of Napa Valley in Northern California, nestled in the foothills of Mount St. Helena. After having been to Napa and Sonoma several times, I realized that this unexplored but highly rated town of Calistoga needed to be visited.
In order to get the full Calistoga experience, you have to stay at a hot springs resort and experience the spa. What I love most about Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort is its proximity to downtown, the ease and comfort of rooms being accessible outdoors, the luscious and gorgeous gardens, greenery and water fountains throughout the property, the decor of the rooms, the comfort of the king bed, the bathrobes, the pool and hot tub area and the complimentary bottle of sauvignon blanc!
It’s truly a decompressing and peaceful place, with a lot of fun mixed in. The aspect that stood out to me the most, however, was the customer loyalty. We spoke with several people by the pool area who have been coming to this resort for decades! They said things like “there’s just nothing like it” and “this place is addicting.” I was blown away by their kindness, passion and amazing stories having come here for so many years, celebrating holidays and bringing friends and family along.

Vibe Check
An extremely secluded, intimate and quiet resort with a welcoming staff and friendly guests. The resort offers a pristine atmosphere with stunning architecture, a pool and hot tub, mud-bath spa experiences, laid-back luxury rooms, outdoor courtyards for relaxing and cooking on the BBQ as well as a plethora of gardens, ponds and fountains. I suggest this resort for any couple looking to get away for an ideal romantic weekend.
Comfort Level
On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best), the comfort level is at a 4. The rooms were spacious but dimly lit. I prefer a bit more natural light. But the decor and architecture of the room made up for it. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room temperature was perfect.
Views to expect on Property
Although the highest level you can go is 2 floors, the entire property is lined with beautiful gardens, vines, flowers, fountains, a beautiful pool and hot tub. It’s simply stunning just walking around on foot.
Dining
While the resort doesn’t offer any formal onsite dining, there are some suites available with a small kitchen. They also have a BBQ grill area with tables and chairs, perfect for grilling in the summer or spending outdoor holidays in Calistoga.
Best Instagram Spots
The pool and hot tub area, the courtyard entry ways with beautiful arches and vines going up the buildings. As well as the bed for that classic robe and wine bottle photo!

Local Culture
Calistoga was founded in 1859 as a health spa by Sam Brannan, an American Journalist, due to the area’s natural and ever faithful geysers and mineral and mud springs. To this day, travelers from all over the world go to Calistoga to experience the “healing powers” of the natural springs and volcanic mud baths. Upon my arrival to Calistoga, I couldn’t help but notice the small-town, western-style, quaint and charming feel. Just as the rest of Napa, it is surrounded by wineries, open fields and mountains. During our stay, I felt relaxed, content and really pleased with how convenient it was to get everywhere.
We stayed at a resort in the heart of the downtown area so anything you needed was right there. Being able to throw on a bathing suit, cover up and walk to get some coffee and breakfast was amazing. It made time more well-spent by not having to travel so far within the town. While we didn’t take advantage of this during our stay, it’s also really popular to ride bikes or go on hikes! An awesome alternative if you like activities other than the pool and going to wineries.
Overall, I loved how at peace, thankful and comfortable I felt in Calistoga.
Best Season to visit
Calistoga is one of those places that is great year-round. But the best time to visit is September and October. The weather is also beautiful this time of year with temperatures in the 80s.
