Hotel Viking Hotel Review
Newport, Rhode Island is one of the more intimate and enchanting New England towns that everyone must visit at least once. Between the summer season, historic mansions, famous Cliff Walk, beaches and lobster rolls, you’ll find plenty to do for a more upscale experience. I love visiting Newport because I believe it truly sets itself apart from many New England towns. While it’s stunning year-round, I highly recommend visiting in the summer to get the most well-rounded experience.
Located on Bellevue Avenue, you’ll find the historic and charming Hotel Viking, a place that will definitely make your vacation more memorable. The hotel has been offering amazing hospitality and accommodations since 1926. And offers a historic, yet modern vibe. Its hosted famous celebrities like Ella Fitzgerald and JFK and continues to attract those with refined taste. Here you’ll find luxury rooms, fine dining experiences, spa services, wedding and meeting spaces. And plenty to do in the surrounding area.
It’s an ideal location as well as it’s right within walking distance to a lot of different tourist attractions. I also loved being able to walk past the gorgeous houses, museums, mansions and waterfront restaurants to explore during my time here. Hotels that are strategically placed in towns and cities where it’s easier to get around, are the ones I like best!
Hotel Viking Hotel Review
Throughout Hotel Viking, you’ll find delightful and unexpected features. The exterior of the hotel is gorgeous with its classic Colonial Revival architecture. Featuring pilasters, brickwork, and double-hung windows making it a grand and inviting entrance. Inside, you’ll find luxuries inspired by modern touches of the Gilded Age with tones of blue, gray, and taupe throughout. It’s a stunning impression when you first walk in with impeccable design, cleanliness and overall experience.
What I loved most about Hotel Viking is the perfect combination of historic and modern touches with great lighting during the day and intimate cozy settings at night. Each room is also thoughtfully designed to encourage conversation and interaction with the hotel offerings. Since I was here for the New England Coastal Creative Conference, I got to see the hotel in action on busy days. And the experience and flow was completely seamless. I chatted with the bartender in the lobby bar and he informed me that they have events going on at Hotel Viking almost every day of the week. I couldn’t believe it considering how elegant and organized everything was.
They definitely have high standards here when it comes to operations. (A green flag in my event-planner eyes).
If you’re looking to host an event, whether a wedding or a meeting, it’s an awesome space to do so as they’re fully equipped with everything you need including indoor/outdoor spaces, conference rooms, dining options, digital signage, team building suggestions and more. The food was also absolutely incredible with an array of options for all dietary needs. It’s so important to provide dietary options for meetings and events to be as accommodating as possible. Overall, the staff was kind, fast and efficient. Everything went smoothly and it also felt very luxurious for a conference. I can only imagine how lovely the weddings are here.
Hotel Viking Accommodations
The rooms are all beautifully decorated with paintings and photos, plush beds, luxury bathrooms and products, plenty of great lighting, flat-screen TVs, a mini-fridge, and more. The rooms definitely feel a bit older compared to the lobby and other main rooms. But it totally adds to the charm. The bed was comfortable, the temperature was perfect for sleeping conditions (I like it cooler). And the cleanliness was on point. I didn’t spend a ton of time in the room but I was located on the first floor which made it super convenient to go back and forth between the room and the conference during breaks.
You have a plethora of options when it comes to the rooms and suites at Hotel Viking which include the following; Breakers Mansion Two Bedroom Suite, Kingscote Mansion Two Bedroom Suite, Marble House Mansion Suite, Belcourt Mansion Bi-Level Suite, Viking One Bedroom Suite, Bellevue Suite, Premier Junior Suite, Estate Fireside Guestrooms, Estate Guestrooms, Newport Guestrooms, European Manor Queen Guestrooms and the Newport Deluxe ADA Guestroom.

Hotel Viking Dining
As for dining, you have a few places to choose from between One Bellevue Restaurant, Top of Newport Bar + Lounge, Hill Market and in-room dining options.
One Bellevue Restaurant is known as a culinary treasure of land and sea with flavor and freshness in every dish. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a wide selection of wines, and creative cocktails. I especially loved the decor and design of the restaurant. As it just felt so elegant and timeless with so much greenery incorporated to give it a fresh, nature-inspired atmosphere. It’s a good idea to get a reservation as well, since meetings and events can easily fill the restaurant up at various times during the week. Items you can expect on the menu include Cape Cod crab dip, New England clam chowder, lobster rolls, lobster mac and cheese, calamari, beef tenderloin and more.
Hill Market is a brilliant, cute little quick-stop breakfast spot serving up coffee, tea, handmade pastries, sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, salads and more. This is a great spot for early morning meetings and events! I grabbed a hot green tea and a delicious toasted everything bagel with cream cheese and jam. It made for the perfect breakfast for a busy morning where I was on the go.
Top of Newport Bar + Lounge offers an elevated outdoor experience with a gorgeous view of town offering wine, beer, bubbles, cocktails and light bites like charcuterie and cheese boards, hummus and pita, smoked salmon dip and jumbo shrimp cocktails. You can’t beat a rooftop experience, that’s for sure.
If you’re on a tight schedule or enjoy the luxury of eating in bed, you can always order in-room dining. You’ll have access to a plethora of options, just as you would at the restaurant.
Hotel Viking Amenities
Of course, the amenities and hotel offers are what truly make hotels stand out from others. With a $35 nightly resort fee, you’ll have access to 208 luxurious guest rooms, 24 expansive suites, over 14,000 square feet of event spaces, full-spa services, fitness center, pool, jacuzzi and infrared sauna, weekend yoga, complimentary bikes, newspapers in the lobby, valet parking, the ability to bring your pet, bottled water, in-room coffee, a welcome drink, seasonal activities, and programming as well as access to the preferred partner program.
One thing I’ve learned to do more of when I visit hotels is to take advantage of the amenities! These simple little offerings can make such a huge difference in your overall hotel experience. And allow you to enjoy things you wouldn’t normally have access to at home. Hotels are expensive, there’s no doubt about that. So make sure to take advantage of what you’re paying for.
