It can be reached by boat or air and is the ideal location for couples, families and friends looking for an upscale getaway. On Martha’s Vineyard you can find amazing beaches and cliffs, ride bikes through town and down trails, visit museums, explore lighthouses, go boating, observe wildlife, browse the authentic shops, get a glimpse of the arts and cultures and eat fresh, delicious food.
It’s truly a special place where you can experience culture, the great outdoors and luxury all at once.

The Hob Knob Hotel on Martha’s Vineyard is located at 128 Main Street in Edgartown (one of New England’s most picturesque coastal villages) and is the ideal location for your trip. With just a 5-minute walk to the downtown area, you’ll have comfort and convenience when getting around. The house itself is a 19th-century Gothic Revival building, originally built in the 1800s as a private home. Over the years, the beautiful seventeen rooms have hosted thousands of travelers, including Jonn F. Kennedy who visited in the 1940s with his family.
As soon as you walk up to The Hob Knob, you’ll be greeted by greenery and flowers lining the pathway to the front door. The gorgeous rich-wood wraparound porch, lounges, rocking chairs and charming decor are extremely inviting and overall makes it a great place to visit. When you step inside you’ll be transported to a vintage atmosphere with creaking floors, antiques, tons of books, beautiful light fixtures, seating areas, dining room tables and an overall quaint scenery.

The Hob Knob name is crafted to encourage guests to mix, socialize or “rub elbows” with each other when on property. This allows for a small community-like atmosphere with friendly guests and good conversations. Whether you’re grabbing your complimentary breakfast in the morning, drinking some tea on the porch, reading a book by the fireplace or having a glass of wine in your room, there’s always someone around you can spark up a conversation with.
Although the hotel is older, the modern amenities are luxurious as can be. As a laid-back luxury traveler myself, I couldn’t have asked for better. Some of the things you have to look forward to include beautiful and unique guest rooms that still hold the century Gothic Revival architecture, comfortable beds, antiques and fine art with a coastal New England theme, restored architectural details, king-size beds with Versai linens, private baths with natural bath and body products, plush & organic robes, a rejuvenation spa, free high-speed WiFi, flat screen TVs, a phone docking station, a drawing room with a working fireplace, two dining rooms, a garden room and terrace, a wraparound porch, in-room fridge with water and snacks, a fitness room, sauna, steam shower and proximity to the beach, restaurants and shops.
How to Get There
You may already know this, but Martha’s Vineyard is only accessible by boat or plane. Most people take a ferry from one of the main terminals, like Woods Hole, where you’ll be on Martha’s Vineyard within a half hour. You’re welcome to bring your car on the ferry for $180 roundtrip or leave your car at the parking lot close-by for $12-$15 a night. This is the most popular option among New Englanders and those taking a road trip from all over the country.
The closest airports include Martha’s Vineyard (MVY) (7 minutes away) and Barnstable Municipal Airport (1 hour away). All other airports will take 2 1/2 hours or longer to get to the island. Once you’re on the island you can freely take your car anywhere, use shuttles to get around the island or rent bikes. It’s an extremely bike-friendly place and makes for a great experience. There are mopeds available but I highly suggest avoiding that unless you really know how to ride one. They are extremely dangerous and people are injured often when riding mopeds in general.

The Wrap-Around Porch
Technically this isn’t a “room” but it’s one of the most fabulous parts of the hotel that is worth noting. The wraparound porch is a signature feature of Hob Knob and is where many of the guests like to spend their time relaxing, reading, eating, sipping on a hot cup of coffee, tea or a glass of wine. It comes equipped with plants, flowers, coffee tables, small tables and chairs, lounge areas and rocking chairs. I personally loved grabbing my breakfast in the morning and enjoying the relaxation of the porch as I woke up slowly.
The Common Rooms & Dining Rooms
Inside the hotel, you’ll find a series of rooms that are filled with dining room tables and chairs, couches and lounge chairs where you can enjoy meals and conversations with a quaint and peaceful ambiance. It’s a very cozy atmosphere with more antiques and beautiful furniture that make the hotel so unique.
Although the hotel doesn’t have a bar, they have glasses available at all times for your cocktail, wine, champagne, tea and coffee. I personally loved drinking champagne in my luxury robe in the evening while we watched a movie in the room.
The Guest Rooms & Suites
The guest rooms and suites include private suites, deluxe rooms, standard rooms and pet-friendly rooms. There are 2 private suites in the hotel located on the second floor and one even has its own private entrance. You’ll have plenty of space, all the luxury amenities, a king-size bed, as well as a living room with a pull-out sofa and a fully outfitted kitchenette. The Deluxe Rooms have plenty of space, all the luxury amenities, in-room skylights, windows that look over the lush gardens and terraces as well as one room with kitchenette equipped with a microwave, fridge, sink, coffeemaker, dishes and utensils. Twelve of the luxurious Standard Guest Rooms are located on the first and second floors and comes with a king-size bed (one with 2 twin beds), all the luxury amenities and private baths with tubs and showers.
My Hob Knob Hotel Experience
The Hob Knob Hotel on Martha’s Vineyard definitely surpassed my expectations. Every experience and interaction at the hotel from the moment we got there to the moment we left was a beautiful and pleasant one. The hotel itself is quiet and offers a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. There’s always someone around, but you also have times throughout the day where you’ll have the porch or rooms to yourself which can be a nice change of pace when looking to relax, read or enjoy a meal.
We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and could have stayed 2 more! We loved the ambiance, the staff, the friendly guests, the complimentary breakfast, the room and the luxuriously plush king-size bed. And we had the pleasure of staying in a Deluxe Room with a hallway, bookshelf, convenient kitchenette for snacks and coffee in the morning, a modern bathroom with a skylight and all the amenities and bath products we need, a desk area to do some work, a TV, as well as a lounge area and vintage bureau with antique beauty gadgets. The rooms themselves were evenly spaced out, the walls were thick so you couldn’t hear other guests and the hallways were always quiet.
One of the most notable experiences of the hotel is the complimentary breakfast.
When I think of a complimentary breakfast, I think of bananas, muffins and coffee. Not only did they offer a full breakfast spread, but the morning staff was an absolute pleasure with some of the best hospitality I’ve seen. The breakfast itself comes on a beautiful white breakfast tray with handles so you can bring it anywhere you please. It comes with a veggie egg scramble, toast with butter, jam and cream cheese options, fresh fruit, overnight oats, a delicious scone and fresh orange juice.
Of course, there’s plenty of coffee and tea available with Hob Knob branded mugs to show off your pride. Once you ask the kitchen staff for a breakfast tray in the dining room, you’re able to sit wherever you like whether inside or outside and they will personally deliver the tray to you. You also have the option to take it upstairs for breakfast in bed!
The only downside to this hotel is that it is located on a main road, so when you’re on the porch it can be quite loud with cars passing by. They also don’t have a hot tub or pool onsite, which is a bummer when going on vacation. Thankfully, there are gorgeous beaches close-by where you can get your sun and swim on.
Overall, we had an amazing experience at Hob Knob and cannot wait to go back for our next trip to Edgartown. I highly recommend this hotel to laid-back luxury seekers, couples, antique and vintage-lovers as well as artists and dreamers.
