When it comes to traveling, comfort is a top priority. Athleisure wear is a great option for stylish, yet practical travelers because it’s easy, supportive, and incredibly comfortable. Some even offer enough pocket space to store your travel essentials.
Here is a round up of some of the best athleisure wear that are great for road trips, flights, and vacations, so you’ll know how to pick out the perfect travel clothes.
11 Best Athleisure Wear For Travel
Leggings
Leggings are a wardrobe essential, period. But they are an especially crucial component of a travel wardrobe because they are typically made from moisture wicking, quick drying materials that help to regulate your body temperature. So even if you work up a sweat during your trip, you’ll stay comfortable in your leggings.
And as tempting as it may be to fill your wardrobe with several pairs of black leggings, don’t be afraid to mix and match different colors and patterns.
Pants
There are also several types of pants that are great for traveling in comfort. From joggers to wide leg pants, you can find just about any silhouette, in any material. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend keeping at least 1-2 pairs of athleisure-style pants in your wardrobe. Neutral colors are the best, because they can be worn with just about anything.
Shorts
When the temperature starts to climb, shorts are a great option. I love biker shorts because they offer the form-fitting comfort of leggings, but cover half as much skin. They can be worn with an oversized tee, a blouse, a tank, or even a sports bra. The key to finding the right biker shorts is to look for moisture-wicking, breathable material. Other than that, just find the color and style that suits you!
Sports Bra
Sure, sports bras are designed to be worn while playing sports, but a sports bra like this one is so comfortable, you’ll want to wear it all the time. You can wear them as tops or as a base layer underneath a tank or tee. As long as you feel supported and comfortable, you’ve found a great sports bra for you.
Sneakers
Sneakers are far more versatile than a lot of people give them credit for. There are athletic sneakers, slip-ons, canvas sneakers, and more, and each type of sneaker can be dressed up or down depending on how you style them. I own several pairs of sneakers and it never ceases to amaze me just how easily they can be incorporated into whatever I’m wearing.
Boots
Boots might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of athleisure wear, but they certainly deserve to be mentioned. From hiking boots and duck boots to rain boots and lace up boots, they’re almost as versatile as sneakers, which makes them ideal for traveling.
Tank Tops/Crop Tops
Tank tops and crop tops are fantastic layering pieces but they can also work really well on their own. I typically style a crop top with high rise pants, but a tank top can be worn with just about any bottom–shorts, pants, or leggings–and still look great!
The key to finding the right tank top for travel is to look for lightweight, breathable materials. You also want to find a size and fit that is comfortable even on long flights or car rides.
Tees
Whether you’re looking for a long sleeve, short sleeve, fitted, or oversized, there’s still one thing to think about when picking out a tee to travel in: material. Cotton or mostly cotton tees are preferable, but moisture-wicking, quick drying material can be super helpful when traveling too.
Sweaters
Sweaters are great for travel because they’re comfortable, they’re stylish, and there are a ton of different styles to choose from. You can wear a sweater as a statement piece, or you can use it as an extra layer to keep you warm when the air conditioning is blasting or you make a pit stop in cooler weather.
Jackets
A good jacket is a must have for traveling and athleisure-style jackets are some of the best. They’re designed to be comfortable, even when you’re constantly moving and working up a sweat. Once you find an athleisure-style jacket that you like, you’ll not only look great, but you’ll feel good too.
Merino wool jackets are great for cold weather, but they’re often a bit too warm for traveling. You can plan on wearing your wool coat before you go or once you get there, but for the trip, I would recommend sticking to jackets made of lighter, more breathable materials.
Matching Sets
I love cute matching sets and there are so many different athleisure sets that are great for traveling. From loose-fitting cotton sets to form-fitting spandex sets, they’re super stylish, crazy comfortable, and practically designed specifically for travel. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with a quality matching set!
Athleisure Travel Outfits
Leggings, Crop Top or Tank Top, Sweater, Boots
This is the perfect outfit for a cool weather road trip that includes a lot of scenic stops along the way. The leggings are super comfortable for when you’re sitting in the car for a while. The sweater is a perfect warm layer that I like to throw on over a crop top or tank top. That way, no matter the temperature at each stop, I’ll be comfortable. And the Sperry boots are one of my favorites because they’re so comfortable, even when you have to do a lot of walking.

Leggings, Tank Top, Sneakers
Here’s another super casual look that would be perfect for a long car ride. You can easily add a jacket or sweater if you need another layer, but this outfit is ideal for trips during warm weather. Even if you work up a sweat, you’ll cool down and dry off in no time. The sneakers will keep your feet comfortable. Plus, they’re easy to slide on and off.

Long Sleeve Top And Shorts Matching Set With Sandals
I love a cute matching set and this one is especially great for travel. I styled it with a pair of sandals, because comfy shoes are a must, no matter how you’re getting to your destination.
To complete the look, I added a mini belt bag, because they’re so trendy right now. They’re like a modern, stylish take on the old-school fanny pack, and they’re so convenient for travel.

Biker Shorts, Oversize Tee, Sneakers
You’ve probably figured out by now that these looks are all about comfort. This look is no different. It’s so comfortable, you’ll feel like you’re wearing pajamas, yet as long as you style it the right way, it still looks put together.
For this look, I styled a pair of biker shorts with a matching oversize tee, then kept the look super laid back with a pair of Adidas sneakers.

Leggings, Crop Top, Jacket, Black Lace Up Boots
This look is a trendier version of the first outfit on this list. Rather than a pullover sweater, I styled high rise black leggings and a crop top with a jacket, then added a pair of black lace up boots. This is one of my favorite outfits to wear in Boston in the fall.

Joggers And Jacket Matching Set With White Sneakers And Black Tote Bag
Now here’s an outfit that’s as chic as it is comfortable. The joggers and jacket from Abercrombie and Fitch are just structured enough to be incredibly flattering without sacrificing style. Plus the jacket has zippered pockets which is super helpful when traveling. I love the “Willow” color, especially styled with my favorite pair of all-white Vans sneakers.
If you’re getting dressed for a long haul flight, I would recommend wearing a lightweight tank top underneath the jacket, to ensure you stay comfortable throughout your trip.
And because this outfit is so perfect for the airport, I finished the look with one of my favorite tote bags, the Ella Tote Bag in black. It has all the room you need for your carry on essentials.
